the Colors of
a Pembroke Corgi
Purebred Pembroke Welsh Corgis come in 3 different colors - Red & White , Sable & White, Red-Headed Tricolor and Black-Headed Tricolor. Any other color, such as Merle are not naturally occurring in the breed, and are not considered purebred. If you see a Pembroke Corgi that is Merle in color, it is a mix with a different breed such as the Cardigan Corgi or Australian Shepherd. Breed DNA testing only detects a few generations, and is notorious for being incorrect, so please be aware of breeders trying to sell a dog with a "boutique" color!
Here is a wonderful graphic made by Curig Corgis that shows the coat colors in a Pembroke.

For this example we will use Scanlan!
He is pure for the Red/Sable gene (Ay Ay), and does not carry the tricolor gene.
